Singapore Fireworks Festival 2008

2nd and last dae of the Singapore Fireworks Festival 2008...
todae... by the Koreans
weather was... bad...
but despite bad weather raining down... it does not dampen the Singapore spirit...
many still crowd around the Marina Bay...

went down to The Esplanade to catch a moment wif the pyrotechnics the whole Singapore is crazy abt...
rain slowly started to die down...
it's a bit sian to watch fireworks in the rain...
but it's also thanks to the rain we found a panoramic view of the bay...
rain made the floor wet...
so not many ppl will wanna wet their butts...
so we found a spot...
get a few newspaper... lay on the floor...
and there... we got seats... XD

a bit of drizzle here and there...
and 7 mins past the start of the fireworks...
heavy drizzle started falling...
Zzz...
everybody beared with the heavenly tears till the end of the fireworks b4 scurrying off into shelter...

took a video of the spectacular night event...

Pirated Rigatoni

Went East Coast for cycling todae...
heard from WL dat The Vista Bistro @ Big Splash kitchen staff was previously from Le Papillon...
and that they replicated the rigatoni pasta recipe over there...
so we decided to go try it out...

on the menu... there's a small print that said "Signature Dish"
lol... alright...
so i ordered it...
food came...
the dish looked almost the same...
less the botarga and the shrinkage of prawns...
well... other dan the 2 not so significant differences...
it really looked like the rigatoni pasta from Le Papillon...

then i tasted it...

immediately i knew the answer...
it couldn't compare to the rigatoni pasta served in Le Papillon...
the taste is way too mild and do not have the "specialness" of LP...
the whole thing juz dun taste right...
i still think LP served the best rigatoni pasta...

Vacuum Lamination

They printed out the photos for the new dishes...
to be put up for Mr. G to see when he starts work...
coz he haven seen the plating of the new menu yet...

with fear dat the stewarding will destroy the photos when they are washing the kitchen...
or maybe dampen the photos...
we decided to "waterproof" it...
they are printed on A4 paper btw...
we got no laminating machine...
so how?
all we have is a vacuum packing machine...
so we used dat anyway... LOL!!!

TA-DA!!!
looks almost like laminated...
another use for our vacuum packing machine...

Turned Carrots

Turned baby carrots todae... Zzz...
turn until my hand cramp liao...
fingers locked into a manner dat however i turn the carrots...
it stays in the exact positions... LOL...

so long never turn carrots liao...
never turn baby carrots b4...

the new chef suddenly changed...
from a devil into an angel... O_o
lol...
baybe coz 2 of our staff cannot take it and complained...
den "threatened" to leave...
oh well...
we'll see how it lasts... :P

Food Feasting

Todae wasn't actually a very busy dae...
but it's only made busy coz of some clearing matters to settle...
tomoro will be the start of the new menu...
so watever is left todae have to be cleared...
those can be used will be used for certain purposes...
those which can't be used... clear away...

left a lot of things... but too sayang to throw away...
so...
we cooked all of them and ate it...
LOL!!!
from lobsters to foie gras and truffles...
not to mention desserts too...
wow... eat until my stomach a bit cramp... Zzz...

coz got food tasting for the new menu from our new chef Andre starting on 1st July...
so stayed till 5:30pm den finally go down for dinner and start work at 6pm again... -_-
took a lot of photos of the new dishes...
didn't wanna upload so many photos...
so i juz combined all of the photos into one using photoshop... XD

some of our staff act like extras...
"acting" like they are talking in the background...

everything looks so comical... LOL!!!

he still remembers me... XD
he said hi to me...
and told one of the staff there...
"this guy used to work in my previous restaurant"

anyway...
dinner not much ppl...
so ended quite early...
very early in fact...
9:30pm we started clearing up the kitchen...

Went for out unit's cohesion at Tampines SAFRA todae...
a very boring dae actually...
soccer... archery... pool... snooker...
they actually booked the entire snooker room juz for out unit...
and play is FOC... :P
we also have free popcorn and balloon sculpting... -_-
some of us brought our families...
but most went alone...
we had lunch there...
which was a bento each...
so fusion sia...
never seen such bento b4...
nope... it's not those japanese rich wif teriyaki or sashimi wif watermelons...
it consisted of fried rice... -_-
oat meal prawns... O_o
baby idako...
and a few grapes... Zzz...
wow... and u call this a bento...

after the prize giving ceremony...
we were finally allowed to out-pro... Zzz...
after which... went home rest a bit b4 going down to Marina Square to meet my dear...

watched Get Smart...
a lame spy movie...
it's lame...
but funnily lame... LOL...
cool lame gadgets...
it's not like "Meet the Spartans" or "Scary Movie"
those are stupidly lame...
Get Smart actually brings in quite a few laughs...

Day 1.
reported to Jurong Camp II @ 7:30am
1st stop... in-pro
RSM standing in front of the in-pro centre checking and approving hair lengths...
those who passed gets a chop on their hand bearing the crest of Jurong Camp II...
lucky i cut my hair not long ago...
so i passed...
those who failed... gets a hair cut from the barber for a fee of $5
$15 for dying it back black...

checked into bunk and slack a bit...
nothing much on the 1st dae actually...
juz a few briefings and so on...
and familiarizing wif the SAR 21 rifle...
and technical handling test...
nite time... Zzz...

Day 2.
stupid chop still on my hand...
like those pork u see sold in the wet market... -_-
had IPPT in the morning...
thought i would fail...
if fail... i gotta retake it another time outside... Zzz...
but luckily...
i passed...
went for an outing to my mother camp - Khatib Camp
for a refresher course on calling for artillery fire...
air-con room... woot...

dinner...

Day 3.
went for 300m range...
hated it...

coz it's group combat shoot... -_-
in order for marksmanship...
ur detail of 6 members must have a total of 80% hit
day shoot... out of 15 rounds... i hit 12... missed 3...
6 members... 2 marksman 4 average shooter...
passed... as for now...
den came the nite shoot...
this is the nightmare...
vision not very clear... so grades drop by a bit...
2 average shooter... and...
4 bobo shooter!!!!!! O_o
and by bobo... i mean BOBO...
each of them... hit 2 out of 15... 3 out of 15... etc... Zzz...
OMG!!!
out of 90 rounds (15 each × 6) we scored only 27...
talk abt boboness...

we were preparing the "special" dessert for the guest...
a chocolate sphere on a bed of rose petals and dry ice...

glitters ever so brightly as we held it to the light...

everything look so dreamy...
dessert is served...
this guy here is going to be the happiest person on earth...

had Seafood Platter...
compared to Manhattan's Fish Market's Seafood Platter...
this has more variety...
and the fried calamari is nice...
though i prefer MFM's flaming prawns and rice more...
both has it's strengths and weaknesses...
and ya... not to mention...
F&C's after meal mints are better dan MFM's mentos...

Official start of work todae...
1st 3 daes is orientation for new birds...
compulsory for all new employees though i don't really need it... XD
i was juz looking forward to going up to the helipad... that's all...

the talks bored me...
telling us on the vision and values of the hotel...
then tea break...
then bring us for a hotel tour...
show us where the different outlets are...
show us the hotel rooms... suites...
show us the swiming pool... spa...
everything... except for the Equinox Complex...

went to one of the Presidential Suites in Fairmont Singapore...
$4,600 per night if i remember correctly...
it's a helluva BIG for two persons...
it's like 3 deluxe rooms combined into one...
and wat did i like most abt the room?
THE TOILET!!!
OMG!!! the toilet itself is bigger dan my room!!! O_o
wif white tiles... glass panels... and a bathtub in th middle of the toilet...
it also have a shower room... and a mini sauna!!! *gasp*
i is so loving the toilet...

after the tour...
lunch... and talks again... Zzz...
full stomach + boring talks = not a very good combination...
i almost fell asleep... -_-
and then... they finally finished...
time's 5:30pm...

rushed out of the hotel...
caught a movie...

1st time cycling on a couple bike...

never tried b4... though i've always wanted to ride on it so much...

wanted to go see how Kallang Entertainment Center has evolved from wat was previously known as Kallang Leisure Park...
so went down todae...
hoping to see a grand entertainment complex wif lots of fun and everything...

reached there... haiz... so sian...
was so disappointed...
after opening for so long...
so many shops not open yet...
nobody go there too...
VERY inaccessable too...
walked a while...
got bored... so left for Suntec...

and ya... we had dinner wif Sabrina's parents todae... :)

Com finally repaired!!!

Finally... went down to Sim Lim to repair my stupid com...
power box gone... fan gone...
need to change new one...

1st bite was nice...
gravy + the part wif the fats was real nice...

Got 2 GV movie tickets...

so went PS to catch a movie...
watched Definately Maybe...

when the movie started...
it was very boring... seriously...
i almost fell asleep...
maybe due to the delicious curry chicken rice i had for lunch todae... XD
but anyway...
as the movie progressed...
it got slightly better...
still boring though...
it was then i wondered...
y the hell did we watch this movie in the 1st place... -_-
the movie then ended wif a very powerful ending...
which really reached into u and touch ur heart...
very touching...

the whole movie juz keeps u thinking and thinking...
wondering who his wife was...
though a few part was a bit exaggeratingly lame...
wif a few decent humour...
very nice movie...
though u really need to understand the boring initial to actually feel the great ending...

the word "Chilli Crab" caught my eye...
so i ordered the spicy chilli pasta wif soft shell crab...
came wif wat looked like a deep fried tarantula on a bed of pasta...
LOL!!!
took a bite...
hmmm... initially was not bad...
but after many mouthfuls...
it really sucked...
taste of plain spicyness... nothing else...
i think the soft shell crab tasted nicer...

my dad cooked it for me...

Red calls for celebration... lol...
i was at home todae...
when suddenly felt some liquid in my nose...
thought to myself...
maybe i'm having running nose... due to the installation of our new air-cons...
but doesn't feel right...
coz it's too watery...
and hard to control...
tried to sniff it back it... but it flowed down faster...
and the next thing i knew...
i saw it drip onto my bed... and i knew dat something is very wrong...
it is red...
MY NOSE IS BLEEDING!!! O_o

lol... seriously speaking...
this is the 1st time in my life my nose bled... XD
maybe due to the lack of sleep recently...
and busy workload...
on top of dat... little water intake...

it was a painless affair which i thought was amusing...

Watched Rouge Crocodile todae...
an average movie to me though...
in terms of scary contents... so so...
plot a bit expected...
so not much surprises...
juz mainly a movie abt a giant killer crocodile in it's territory hunting it's prey one by one...
it suddenly came to light dat...
all killer creatures in movies are usually associated with water...
maybe becoz u can't see anything under the water...
like Anaconda... Deep Blue Sea... etc etc...
nothing much to sae abt this movie...
can miss it... can watch it...

A fragment of my dream

Suddenly woke up at 5:18am todae...
and decided to blog my dream...
and also preparing to be doing something later...
this is the 1st time i'm blogging down my dream...
or at least recording it somewhere...
this is my dream... and don't come sue me for anything i've written here...
i was juz merely blogging my dream...

i was reading the newspaper...
i dreamt dat Fann Wong (or was it a game character? couldn't quite remember...) and quite a few others was drowned in a water tube and now in a coma in hospital...
Costa Sands have to pay Mediacorp millions in damages...
then i suddenly have a re-enactment of wat happened in the accident... (it's a dream remember? dreams make no sense...)
Fann Wong and Florence Tan and a about a dozen other Mediacorp artistes was moving through a water tube (those water theme park tubes but very very much bigger) with running water flowing under their feet... (i only remembered these 2 in my dream)
Florence slipped coz she panicked but they still continued...
the hatch was supposed to close up and water flooding in...
and they were supposed to traverse through the water pipe to the other side for some sort of charity...
i went past Florence and further in (now when did i get into the picture? LOL!!! it's a dream... wat do u expect?) and ended up in a bus... -_-
i was thinking... if the bus were to flood with water...
and everybody would drown...
i would kick the window open the let the water out...
and i would be the 1st to rush to the upper deck to save Sabrina...
OMG!!! wat kind of a dream is this? Zzz...
it didn't flood in the end... coz i woke up after dat... LOL!!!

well... i stress... the above is juz a fragment of my dream...
i dreamt of many other parts...
but this was the only one i could remember...
the more i type... the more faint my dreams get...
and i know if i don't record it somewhere... by tomoro... everything would be forgotten...

anyway... when i woke up...
i couldn't find my phone...

Todae is the 1st dae in my life i experienced two extreme opposite emotions an a single dae...
the best and happiest emotion anybody could ever feel...
and the worst and painful emotion anybody could feel...

but i didn't had the mood then...

so off i went to the ATM machine...
noticed something queer...
there are 2 ATMs... yet only one queue...
all queued on the right side...
but nobody using the left one...
so i juz went and used it anyway...
press a few buttons here... press a few there...
and out came a $50 note...
i thought... the machine is working fine...
so how come nobody used it... Zzz...
anyway... after i took the money...
those behind came over to use the left machine...
then this guy was struggling at the left ATM for quite a while b4 he suddenly switched to the right ATM...
den i looked at the screen...
"This ATM is temporary unavailable"
diaoz... O_o
now dat explains the long queue on the right... and nobody using the left ATM...
can't blame it...
the ATM love me... LOL!!!
and the funny thing is...
after a while...
both ATMs are down...
hahaha...
so sad... now nobody can withdraw any money...

The Orphanage

Went out the whole of todae...
so feeling kinda tired...
so i shall juz skip all the way to the movie rating...

went to Cineleisure todae...
watched The Orphanage...
some kind of a horror movie...
great story... i felt...
everything seems so logical and linked...
excellent plot...
though the movie's in Spanish...
but still...
reading the subtitles is enough to let u understand the movie perfectly...
story's abt an adopted kid who is on the brink of death and his "imginary" friends...
the kids are not exactly scary...
all but one...
the one with the sack over his head...

this movie sure fits the bill for being a horror movie...
horror movies nowadaes dun really get to scare me much...
i didn't jump at most scary scenes from this movie...
only once...
it's been a long time since i jumped from watching a scary movie... LOL!!!

wat's really great abt this movie is actually how it's actually planned...
it shows u certain parts of the movie... yet hides certain details...
it makes the audience use their imagination to picture wat the scene is supposed to be...
nothing is more powerful dan ur audience's imagination...

went down to city hall wif Sabrina...

i had pork chop fried rice... while she had mushroom and duck noodles...
we shared a plate of guo tie too...
food there was so so...

movers moving our stuff out...
and i went for work while my family moved over to Yishun...

after work... went directly to Yishun... to my new home...

almost couldn't find it...
coz i forgot old HDB flats have a connector on every floors wif a lift...

a horror thriller movie...

well... as usual...
using same old boring scaring techniques...
using loud sounds to scare them audience...
without the sounds... the images ain't exactly graphic...
so a little note to all horror movie director wannabes...
touch up more on graphical effects...
coz it's so lame to scare ur audience mainly based on sounds...
up till date... the best horror movies i've ever came across are those from Japan and Thailand...

but still the scaring part failed...
there's still some decent plot lah...
so not too bad...
though the ending is a bit confusing...
and some details are a bit impossible...
and has a very sad ending too... :(
still... this movie is worth a watch...
but u can give it a miss at the same time...

food there was not bad... :)
but i still miss the mango sticky rice from Thailand...
so yummy... ahhhhh~

1st time in my life eating Ben & Jerry's ice cream...

Le Papillon Half Marathon

Decided unanimously yesterdae dat we would go for a jog todae...
so packed my bags last nite...
shoes... attire... and ready to roll...

starting point... Le Papillon...
did some stretching excercises b4 move off...
it's right after we did our last lunch order...
set off at split shift break...
jogged all the way to Marina Bay Jetty...
wow... 1st time i jog in CBD area sia... O_o
3 of us jogging...
the rest lazy to jog... so slept in the restaurant...
i tried not to walk... at most jogging veeeeeerrrrrrrrrrry slowly...
at walking pace...
the other 2 walked... -_-
i shall not name who... LOL!!!

reached the jetty... rested a while b4 jogging back...
had a shower and went Maxwell Food Center for dinner...
b4 returning back to the restaurant to sleep...
long time never run le... shag... XD

Valentine's Day Madness

First and foremost...
a very happy valentine's dae to all couples and singles alike...
roses everywhere...
even the local wet market sells pretty bouquets of flowers...
KM ordered a bouquet of lilies and sunflowers...
they got wrapped up so nicely...
not cheap oso...
the was a vendor selling flowers...
when asked how much is a sun flower...
he replied... $5
hmm... cheap...
if i wanna wrap up 3 sunflowers how much?
he thought for a while... $50
O_o
wah kaoz...
u think we are carrot heads? -_-
we'll think abt it...
wait wait... u want delivery? if no delivery $40 only... Zzz...
lol... dat's the conversation KM had wif him yesterdae...
but in the end... he bought from another vendor... haha...

todae is a very busy dae for us restaurants...
turnover : 2.0
restaurant having 2 seatings of 6pm and 8pm
restaurant fully booked...
V dae menu going at $108++ each... O_o
well... everybody is carrot head on V daes... LOL!!!
furthermore... todae got buffet breakfast...
so reach restaurant earlier... 8am... Zzz...
den a lot of things to prepare... so didn't get a chance to rest during split shift break...
lunch sucks...
so i ate crossaints (leftovers from breakfast buffet)
wif curry... WAHAHAHA!!! XD
dinner oso never eat a proper meal...
juz some cakes and pastries...
so now feel so tired... feel like sleeping liao... LOL

according to KM's calculations...
restaurant earned $14K on food... EXCLUDING beverages for DINNER ONLY...
wow...
plus breakfast 30pax × $30
and lunch...
todae earn big bucks...

heard dat someone proposed in the restaurant todae...
