Singapore General Hospital

Went to SGH sfter work todae...
to visit my OOTP chef...
he got stroke a few daes ago...
also down wif neumonia...

the usual lively and funny him
turned the exact opposite when i saw him todae...
looked pale and weak...
breathless... struggling for air every single second...
he looked lifeless... and seemed to be in pain...
couldn't talk... juz lying on the bed... looking very tired...

looking at him...
it suddenly dawned upon me dat...
life... is fragile...
todae u might be a bubbly lively person...
wif many dreams and ambitions...
full of urge and motivation...
and suddenly u r stricken wif a terminal disease...
hospitalised...
u suddenly become moody and lifeless...
dreams and ambitions all shattered...
become weak and demoralized...

treasure each and everyone around you...
u might never noe if that person will be there tomoro...

while looking for the exit out of SGH...
saw something dat puzzled me much...
in the hospital directory...
i saw...
"Nuclear Medicine"
O_o
never heard of dat b4...
wat do they actually do wif nuclear medicine?
will it cause a nuclear meltdown and kill the entire population of Singapore?

16 hrs of work...

Washed chickens todae... -_-
so sian...

was asked to OT for Chinese Banquet Kitchen a few daes ago...
so i agreed...
so todae worked 16 hrs... -_-
7 am - 11pm...
and to think longest lasagne only 14 hrs... Zzz...
even though work 16 hrs...
ain't as tired as working 14 hrs overnite...
coz subconsiously... ur mind is telling u...
it's nite time... you are sleepy...
go to sleeeeeeep...
den u'll feel tired... and wanna sleep...
but if in the afternoon...
somehow... u wun feel like sleeping loh...
or maybe it's juz me...

anyway... morning wash chicken in Kopitiam...
evening wash fish in CBQ...
i is hate washing fish...
my hands full of fish cuts... -_-
den help wif the cold dish...
and all the courses...
pretty much standard loh... lol...
also saw them roast suckling pigs...
mmmmmmmm......
oh well...
lucky off tomoro...
if not shag till i die... :P

Sze Chuan Vs Kopitiam

The difference between Sze Chuan and Kopitiam?
well... both of them have the same amount of workload...
(for me... to do...)
so the only difference is...
Sze Chuan... 1 do all the cutting alone...
or... another guy help me...
so it's a max of 2 ppl doing...
Kopitiam on the other hand...
everybody who's free help out wif watever need be cut on the table...
and for goodness sake...
6 ppl plucking spring onions together...
including the chef... O_o
OMG!!!
ended up... i'm so free by 1pm
i walked abt the kitchen looking for food to eat... LOL...
the chin chow drink very nice... :P
full of grass jelly...
$17 chicken rice can't fight $3 chicken rice sold at my house...
sad...
nasi lemak is not bad...
compared to nasi lemak outside... it's somewat near the top...
but...
my dad makes the BEST nasi lemak i've ever eaten up till now...

ok... we learnt how to carve vegetables a couple of daes ago...
todae... we learnt how to speak Thai... LOL
the whole kitchen learning Thai language from the Thai chefs... -_-
i is not interested...
i only noe sawadee kap... XD

after work... went for exam... -_-
well... not exactly exam...
but survey... the make the hotel a better place... Zzz...
come in a booklet...
like exam paper like dat...
multiple choice...
even got short answer questions... -_-
but i only filled in the MCQs... hahaa...

ah... and yes...
hotel rebranding to Fairmont...
and we'll be getting 5 dae work week!!! YAY!!!
but work 10 hrs per dae... -_-
well... no pain... no gain...

Vegetable carving

Ok... so as usual...
boring dae...
do the same old boring stuffs everydae...
and as usual again... free from work at abt 1pm or so...
nothing to do...
so we took some raddishes to carve our own roses...
it's time to put wat we learnt yesterdae to test... :P

for the 1st few seconds... i blur...
i dunno where to start...
staring at the chunk of cylindrical raddish...
and i finally sink the knife blade in...
slowly carving out chunks and chunks of raddish
it's nowhere near the looks of a rose... -_-
argh... so how do i continue?
i almost gave up...
it's tiring ok...
but still i continued...
trying hard to remember the cutting strokes she showed us yesterdae...
also looking the the sample she carved yesterdae...
slowly slowly... it started to take shape...
then voila! it's done!

My 1st time carving a rose

well... i ain't as nice as wat she did...
but hey... at least it still looks somewat like a rose... :P
considering the fact dat it's my 1st time carving something out of a vegetable...

I is happy... XD

1st dae of Kopitiam...

So... how's my 1st dae in Kopitiam?
boring... Zzz...
woke up very reluctantly todae...
working 7am - 3pm this week... Zzz...
i hate waking up early...
but yet... i dislike going home at night either...
can i work 3pm - 6pm?
LOL!!!

anyways...
Kopitiam having Thai promotion for a couple of weeks...
starting last week... and ending this week...
Thai chefs are hired from dunno where in Thailand to cook in Kopitiam...
and the whole dae i juz do mise-en-plus... Zzz...
so sian...
den got nothing to do...
the Thai chef oso nothing to do...
so... since so many ppl nothing to do...
she taught us how 2 do vegetable carving... hahaa...
she carved a rose outta a carrot for us to see...
which i took a photo of...
but it's too blurred... i shan't post it... :P

BUT... she made another bigger rose outta a sweet turnip...
bigger... so... = easier for us to see...
wow... so nice lah the roses... O_o
skillful sia...
after she finished... again... i took a photo of it...

Beautifully done...

she saw me take a photo of it...
and she told me "no no no..."
then she walked away... -_-
came back later wif a few banana leaf leaves and some carrot carvings...
and a plate...
and she made it nicer for me to take... LOL...

Nice rite?

then she asked me if i wanna take them home... -_-
i said no thanks... LOL...
rot in my home? hahaa
anyway... i appreciated her offer... :)

End of longest lasagne

Finally... marked the epilogue of the longest lasagne...
a very tiring event... Zzz...
yeah... and i'm blogging this iv only a half sane and half sleeping mind...
worked from 11pm - 1pm...
14 hrs... Zzz...
it's not fun at all...
the feeling of booking in when everybody else is going home sucks...
ok... we were quite energetic in the beginning stages...
till Zhou Gong start knocking into our heads...
dat's when things start to look sian...
anyways... here's an account of wat we did the night b4...

i wanna sleep le... LOL... :P
started work at 11pm...
den need to wait till function rooms and banquet kitchens are cleared b4 we can start work...
pushed all lasagnes to respective kitchens to start baking process concurrently...
due to the amount of lasagnes to be baked...
we need to bake then in 5 different kitchens for 3 seperate times...
due to the lack of combi-ovens for our 1000+ lasagnes...

after we placed all lasagnes into their respective kitchens...
we had a little break...
to wait for 4am... when we'll be starting to bake the lasagnes...
so passed by the laundry area...
and O_o...
all the part-time banquet staff throw their clothes all over the shop...
even on the floor too... -_-
i pity the laundry ppl...

Juz look at the mess...

4am...
started baking the lasagnes...
all of us seperated to different kitchens to proceed wif the baking...
KM and i were stationed in Chinese Banquet Kitchen...
Ben's in Main Kitchen... i think... :P
and wow...
i saw a VERY old fashioned rotating oven...
it's like a ferris wheel inside...
wif 5 "beds"
enough to fit 5 of us inside lying down and rotating... O_o
now dat's a huge oven...
wanted to take a photo of it...
but inside too dark... so didn'e in the end... :P
but i took a picture of the lasagnes baking in the combi-oven... :)

Baking in process...

9am... completion of baking of lasagnes...
so moved all food warmers to all available exits of the hotel...
waited for the go code to start pushing out the lasagnes...
will then be assembling the lasagnes at abt 9:45am...
judges will then have to measure the lasagne for a total of 560m
b4 it starts going on sale at 10am...

yeah... i was supposed to be at station 2...
but minor setback...
so got send to the end of the tail instead at station 28... -_-
coz the stewarding measured wrongly... Zzz...
so business was very bad at the tail...
but very good in the front and the lobby of Raffles The Plaza...
which i heard...

Me and the lasagne...

saw Derrick Lau... he cam over to sae hi to me... hahaa...
he came to help out wif the TP students...
wow... suprised to see him here... XD
a lot of SHATEC students are here too to help...
aiyah... forgot to take a photo wif Ah Lau... :(
only remembered after i reached home... -_-
too shag to think... sian...

11pm...
clearing the war front...
pushing back all the leftover lasagnes back to Jr. Ballroom Kitchen...
ta pao them into take-away boxes for the students who helped...
and for those who wanna bring home some lasagnes...
also sent a whole warmer of lasagnes to the tuckshop for staff to consume... LOL...
and yeah... the students were so happy to be able to bring back the lasagnes...
even more happy when we told them take as much as u want...
coz we got a lot of leftovers...
so all of them each not bringing home less dan 5 packets... O_o
wow...
all so delighted...
everybody took tons of lasagnes home...
me?
spare me the lasagnes... -_-
lol...

got free lasagnes.. who dun wan?

finally ended my dae at 1pm...
went home...
struggling to keep awake... till now...
i guess i'll be off to bed soon... lol... :P

Coming up next week... Kopitiam...

War starts tomoro!!!

Will be required to reach hotel by 11pm...
den will work through the night baking the lasagnes at 4am...
work till supposedly 11pm on Sundae...
but i gotta feeling will +++ until dunno wat time de...

i'll be situated to the right of the MRT entrance to Raffles City shopping mall...
along the Café Cartel stretch...
i'll be right at the corner where the lasagne bends towards Swissôtel The Stamford lobby...
i'll be at label "2A" or near "2"
juz in case someone wishes to come locate me... LOL... :P

official timing for the event starts from 9am...
but we'll only be out at around 9:30am+
depends...
it's fine if u dun wish to eat the lasagne for $10 each...
u can still watch anyway... :P
